Owhango Beekeepers Club

First Field Day – Owhango Beekeepers Club

Our town is in the Ruapehu District, situated 15 minutes south of Taumarunui on State Highway 4. We are also right at the 39 South Parallel and exactly halfway between Wellington and Auckland.

We have our own town website www.owhango.co.nz and run a successful market day every first Sunday of each month out of our community hall.

Our club started after a few people talking after one market day, and the subject came up about the lack of bees in our area.

We found a couple of locals who had kept bees before and decided to start our own club and focus on developing our own club hive which we can use for training and development with the view that our locals would over a period of time start their own hives as well.

So far we have had 16 members join our club in a matter of two months so we feel excited about our first spring and summer ahead with our new club bee colony.
